Remember how you would psych yourself up for ages before approaching the harrassed assistant manager to request a day off for a special, or unscheduled event?
Am I the only one to have been met with this response?
“So – you want a day off, do you? Let’s have a look at what you’re asking for:
There are 365 days in the year available for work. There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, which now leaves 261 days available for work.
You spend 16 hours of each day away from work, which equates to 170 days, thus now leaving only 91 days left for work.
Of them, you spend 30 minutes each day on coffee breaks, amounting to 23 days each year. This reduces available working days to only 68. A daily lunch hour each day accounts for another 48 days leaving now only 22 days available for work.
You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave, o there are only 20 days available for work.We offer 5 bank Holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days.
We generously give you 14 days vacation per year – which leaves you only 1 day available for work, and I’ll be damned if you’re going to take that day off!!!!! “
(Ok – so I was young and naive, and should have done the math!)
