Dumfries House & Lunch at Lochside House Hotel and Spa
Tuesday 26th June 2018
This will be our second visit to Dumfries House, the reason being that so many enjoyed the first visit that many members have suggested that we visit it again.
The House has been described as an 18th Century time capsule which has changed little in 250 years. There is no doubt that it is one of Britain’s most beautiful stately homes with an outstanding collection of 18th Century Furniture including fine examples of the work of Thomas Chippendale.
Throughout 2018, as part of Chippendale 300, the nationwide celebration of the tercentenary year of Thomas Chippendale’s birth, Dumfries House in Ayrshire will host an exclusive programme dedicated to the celebrated 18th century cabinet maker.
There is much to do and see here: Queen Elizabeth Walled Garden (£3 admission not included); The Maze, and The Arboretum. Time will, unfortunately, be too short to enjoy all these delights. However, since our last visit, much has been added to the house – art work, clocks and the gardens which are free.
Tea/coffee and shortbread will be provided in the Marquee while waiting for your tour to commence or waiting for other tours to finish.
Buses will leave North Hanover Street, Glasgow at 10.30 a.m.
We are going first of all to Lochside House Hotel and Spa, New Cumnock where we will enjoy a two course meal with tea/coffee. We have to pre-order so please return the completed slip together with the remittance form that was sent with the event e-mail.
Tours of Dumfries House start at 2.30 p.m.and we anticipate leaving around 5 p.m to return to Glasgow. The cost for the trip is £17 per person (which includes transport, lunch, entry fee and coffee)
We anticipate that this outing will be extremely popular so please return your request as soon as possible. Closing date for entries is 1st. June.
Interested members should apply for tickets in the normal manner.
