Culzean Castle visit – 2016

Being only 12 miles south of Ayr and 4 miles west of Maybole, this  relatively ‘local’ trip proved very popular, with forty-five members filling the bus that left from Glasgow Chief Office at  11am on Wednesday 20th October 2016.

A short journey of only an hour later, we arrived at the glorious 260 hectare estate that was once the playground of David Kennedy, 10th Earl of Cassillis – a man who was evidently keen to impress with his wealth and status.

Opulent to the extreme, the park is planted with conifers and beech, sculpted around miles of sandy coastline dotted with caves, and finished off with a Swan Pond, an ice house, flamboyant formal gardens and fruit-filled glasshouses.
