A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL BOSPEN MEMBERS AND SITE VISITORS!

Here’s a little something to enhance that Christmas cheer:

A Scottish Fairy

I am a wee little fairy
On tap o’ the Christmas tree
It’s no’ a job I fancy
Well how would you like tae be me

A’ tarted up wi’ tinsel
It’s enough to mak ye boak
An a couple of jaggy branches
Rammed up the back o’ your frock.

An these wee lights a’ roon me
I canna get my sleep
An’ there’s the yearly visit
Fae Santa – big fat creep.

On Christmas Day I’m stuck up here
While you’re wiring in
An’ naebody says, Hey you up there
Could you go a slug o’gin?

The Christmas Tree’s a bonny sight
As the firelight softly flickers
But think o’me – I’m stuck up here
Wi’ needles in ma knickers.

Eastwood & District Festive Lunch.

Our annual lunch was held in the Redhurst Hotel, on Eastwoodmains Road, which is our usual venue.

For once the weather was not a problem. After last year’s cancellations with people snowed in, breaking limbs from sliding on ice, and the lemon meringue pie not being delivered because the lorry couldn’t get through the snow,  this year’s event was thankfully less eventful.

The meal was excellent as ever and enjoyed by everyone – forty-three pensioners and guests in all, including former AGM George Thomson.

Strathkelvin District Christmas Lunch.

On Wednesday, 5th December, Strathkelvin and District Pensioners once again held their Annual Christmas Lunch in Douglas Park Golf Club .

This is an excellent venue and 55 members enjoyed a three course lunch followed by mince pies, tea/coffee and mints. The quality of food and service was excellent as usual.

Graham Scott,  who is retiring as local chairman, welcomed everyone and in particular, singled out Chris Hunter, now aged 92 for a special welcome. Chris was on the Committee for many years and was a great supporter of all the activities. Graham also mentioned one of our former chairmen, Hassie Young, who is now 103 and is as alert as he always was.  He now resides in Erskine Care Home. (More on Hassie can be read here.)

Graham also introduced Senga Dempster who is taking over from him. To Senga and her team who organised the lunch and more particularly the magnificent raffle, a special thanks for their hard work.

Dates have been announced for another two area festive lunches:

Glasgow South lunch is on Wednesday 16th January 2019 in the Millennium Hotel, George Square, Glasgow,

Eastwood & District lunch is on Tuesday, 15th January 2019 in the Redhurst Hotel.

Full details of these lunches will be circulated at the beginning of December.
